I Suffer From Overmarketing

I suffer from overmarketing. No, I don't flood the market with manuscripts or queries. I take my time and utmost care with each correspondence. My problem comes from this website. If you haven't noticed, my tips and my musings pages are, well, on the sparse side. And that's not for a lack of ideas, or even time to write. Each time I sit down to write another item, initially intended for my website, the piece grows into a full-length feature article or contains a certain "edge" I never planned. My first thought isn't, "this tip turned out great," but rather, "hey, this would be a great fit for magazine ABC or website XYZ." As much entrenched in marketing my writing as I am in actually writing, I have to follow-through and try to sell my latest creation.

Of course, I could place the item on my website until such time as I sell it, even use my website as a showcase for my work for sale, as some writers do, but that would mean sacrificing First North American Serial Rights (FNASR), something I don't want to do. I'm very focused on marketing and FNASR is a precious commodity which should not be sacrificed "willy nilly." Instead, I'll be patient (this business is good for developing one's patience) and as I sell FNASR to other pieces, I'll use my reprint rights to fill up my tips and musings pages with my work. Until then, bear with me... I'll try to keep my ideas short and better suited for my website... but no guarantees.
